About the role:
The Datacenter Automation Systems (DAS) team is committed to the successful implementation of autonomous vehicles, semi-autonomous vehicles, and permanently placed equipment throughout multiple datacenters. CBRE is seeking full-time, permanent, mid-level Datacenter Automation Systems (DAS) Technical Writer with experience creating operational procedures, best practices, building operations, construction, and on-site safety products for robotic automation. The Technical Writer will report to the Client-approved location:
● Moncks Corner, SC
● Council Bluffs, IA
The Technical Writing requirements may vary according to Client-determined assignments, but most content relates to design specifications, construction practices, operational safety and automation best practices at the Client's data centers. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary team creating highly technical training and documentation for Automation Systems to be used in Data Centers. The individual will collaborate with project engineers, CAD/BIM Operators, project managers, and other technical writers. Ideal candidates must be comfortable communicating regularly via video conference, email and internal ticketing systems.
What you'll do:
- Plan, develop, edit, and create advanced content for the documentation of software applications and hardware environments.
- Utilize and create templates for standardizing system documentation. Prepare reference material for developers and end users.
- Use docs-as-code (Markdown) to publish technical documentation to team website
- Create and maintain team sites for documentation repositories
- Create photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate the material.
- Conduct research and interview Sr. technical and business personnel, Update existing user manuals to be up to date with product technologies and production methods.
- Copy edit and quality assurance of operational procedure documentation to ensure writing standards are being used.
- Utilize professional experience to implement and interconnect communications such as presentations, drawings, graphs, charts, videography, etc.
- Validate the accuracy of existing documentation.
- Provide ad-hoc technical assistance to Sr. managers and other key members of the application development team.
- Apply general knowledge of standard principles and techniques/procedures to accomplish assigned tasks and solve routine problems.
- Have a broad knowledge of own job discipline and some knowledge of several job disciplines within the function.
- Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. May convince to reach an agreement.
- Impact the quality of own work and the work of others on the team.
- Work primarily within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- Explain complex information to others in straightforward situations.
- Conduct independent research and work with internal / external global teams to produce or revise documentation that follows the client’s global standards and is easily understood by the intended audience.
- Facilitate periodic reviews to ensure documentation stays up to date.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred with 2-5 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Understanding of existing procedures and standards to solve slightly complex problems.
- Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience to apply appropriate judgment and precedents.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
