About the Role:
As a CBRE Health, Safety and Environment Sr. Director, you will oversee the department responsible for creating and implementing health, safety, and environmental programs for an account at a global level.
This role is instrumental in building a proactive safety culture, managing risk, ensuring compliance, and promoting sustainable practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop, implement and lead HSE programs and initiatives targeted to reduce risk, meet regulatory requirements and HSE safety and Environmental needs of CBRE and our client. Evaluate new and existing programs to assess suitability and the need for changes.
- Lead, mentor and coach a team of HSE professionals. Ensure commensurate day-to-day support and guidance to the team. Establish work schedules, assign tasks, and cross-train staff. Set and track staff and department goals and deadlines. Monitor the training and development of staff. Manage team member performance through regular check-ins, periodic performance evaluations, and coaching. Oversee the recruiting and onboarding of new employees.
- Review and lead all aspects of all work processes and conditions to ensure HSE controls and safeguards are in place and optimized. Drive data-driven risk management and continuous improvement measures. Utilize metrics and KPIs to evaluate program performance.
- Oversee strategic HSE performance management. Compile appropriate performance reports for the business and maintain performance monitoring, analysis and review against established metrics and standards to drive improvements.
- Support the achievement of industry best practices, business competitiveness, and the development of a learning organization.
- Coordinate and approve HSE plans, playbooks, and procedures for the account. Ensure HSE plans and playbooks are current, complete, and successfully implemented.
- Coordinate and manage interactions with government agencies, professional health, safety, and environmental organizations, etc.
- Provide information and counsel to management for the account in matters pertaining to HSE, compliance, trends, performance, and concerns.
- Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. Partner with senior management, customers, and external parties of divergent interests to reach an agreement of strategic importance while being guided by the business segment and the organization's functional strategy.
- Conceptualize new methods, techniques, processes, and standards across job disciplines or functions. Direct the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems by applying advanced critical thinking.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree with 12-15 years of relevant experience, including 7+ years of experience managing people, department budgets, and project teams. Master’s degree preferred. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Certifications in the field of HSE such as the CSP, CIH, CHMM, or other certifications in related fields are highly desirable, though not mandatory.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations and industry standards is required.
- Experience in the areas of staffing, training, mentorship and coaching, performance management, professional development and talent retention.
- Ability to exchange sensitive, complicated, and difficult information, convey performance expectations, and handle problems.
- Leadership skills to motivate the team to achieve broad operational targets with impacts on own job discipline, multiple job disciplines, and departments.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client facing and large group presentation experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the position is $200,000 annually and the maximum salary for the position is $250,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program.
