About the Role: 
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will support the Project Manager in the planning, execution, and closure of data center projects. This role will assist in managing various aspects of project lifecycle, including but not limited to: scheduling, budgeting, vendor management, documentation, and communication. The APM will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required specifications. This is a crucial role for supporting the successful build-out and maintenance of our data center infrastructure.

What You’ll Do:
Project Support:
  • Assist the Project Manager in all phases of the project lifecycle, from initiation to closeout.
  • Support the development of project plans, including scope definition, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
  • Track project progress, identify potential issues, and escalate them to the Project Manager.
  • Assist in the preparation of project status reports, presentations, and other communication materials.
  • Maintain project documentation, including meeting minutes, change orders, and vendor invoices.
  • Assist with the procurement of materials and services, including obtaining quotes, negotiating prices, and managing purchase orders.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., IT, facilities, security) and external vendors to ensure project alignment.
  • Participate in site visits to monitor progress and ensure adherence to safety regulations and quality standards.
Scheduling and Budgeting:
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules using project management software (e.g., MS Project, SmartSheet).
  • Track project expenses and assist in the preparation of budget forecasts.
  • Monitor actual spending against the budget and identify any variances.
  • Assist in the processing of invoices and payments to vendors.
Vendor Management:
  • Assist in the communication with vendors and contractors.
  • Track vendor performance and ensure adherence to contract terms.
  • Coordinate vendor schedules and activities on-site.
Risk Management:
  • Identify potential project risks and assist in the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor project risks and track the effectiveness of mitigation plans.
Data Center Specific Responsibilities:
  • Understand and adhere to data center best practices and industry standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier Standards, BICSI).
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure components, including power distribution units (PDUs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), cooling systems, and network cabling.
  • Assist in the coordination of data center migrations and expansions.
  • Ensure compliance with data center security protocols and procedures.

About you:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 1-3 years of experience in project management, construction management, or a related field.
  • Experience working on data center projects a plus.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, or IT infrastructure projects preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, SmartSheet) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure components and operations preferred.

Certifications:
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) certification a plus.
