About The Role:

As the Deputy General Counsel supporting CBRE’s Building Operations & Experience (“BOE”) business segment, you will provide comprehensive legal support to CBRE's enterprise facilities management and local facilities management business lines across the globe.  As a strategic thought partner to the BOE business, you will play a key role in advancing important business initiatives while managing and advising senior leadership on legal risk across a wide variety of complex transactions. 

As a senior leader in the legal department, your responsibilities will also include risk management, compliance with applicable laws and regulations and staying abreast of market best practices.  You will anticipate and address legal issues, review and negotiate contracts, supervise and empower a global team of in-house lawyers, and develop efficient processes.  Additionally, you will take ownership over the development and execution of department and team transformations, strategies and initiatives, while effectively communicating with, collaborating with, and influencing stakeholders across the organization. This role requires a strong ability to navigate complex challenges, make strategic decisions and influence behavior.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide a broad range of legal support for CBRE’s global BOE business lines, including enterprise and local facilities management.
  • Serve as a strategic and trusted partner to the BOE business, including providing legal support and advice to senior leadership to help advance key business initiatives.  
  • Lead and manage a large and diverse team of employees and managers at all levels across the globe to drive and achieve business objectives.  
  • Directly advise on significant master service agreements, SOWs, local country agreements, and other complex transaction matters.  Analyze complex contractual risks and counsel business teams on operational and legal issues associated with client contracts.
  • Identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks while providing advice and guidance on compliance with those laws and regulations applicable to CBRE’s BOE business. 
  • Champion legal technology and data transformation, driving adoption of modern tools, analytics, and scalable processes to elevate legal service delivery and decision-making.
  • Stay updated on the latest market best practices and standards in the commercial real estate industry, ensuring knowledge is consistently applied to drive business objectives.  
  • Anticipate and identify legal issues of concern to senior leadership and develop strategies and solutions. 
  • Develop processes and procedures to effectively provide legal advice and services to internal business stakeholders, including novel operating models.  
  • Operate as a collaborative leader within the legal and compliance leadership team and across the organization, proactively engaging stakeholders to surface issues early and advance shared objectives.
  • Oversee and manage budgets, including resource allocation, outside spend, and operational efficiency for the BOE legal team. 
  • Effectively lead cross-functional activities with multiple internal and external stakeholders with a broad span of control and influence.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate with strong academic credentials required. Must be a member of State Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience required. At least 5 years of in-house experience supervising highly matrixed teams is strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in effectively leading and executing complex transactions.  
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in autonomous, yet collaborative environment and without constant oversight or supervision.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and present complex ideas effectively and practically to senior leadership and key stakeholders. 
  • Proven track record of leading successful legal function transformations, including designing and implementing operating model, process, and/or technology changes that deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, insights, and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building, developing and maintaining high-performing teams, including succession planning, talent development, and performance management.
  • Strong business acumen and exceptional judgement to advise on highly significant and crucial legal matters. 
  • Strategic mindset bringing direction and focus to the most important priorities that will drive impact, mitigate the most significant risks, and deliver the greatest return on the investment of time and resources.
  • Proven track record of fostering an engaged team culture that values open and transparent communications, empowering others and working collaboratively.  
  • Experienced in building a high-performance organization and inspiring, leading, and developing members of the team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, and capable of navigating and managing competing priorities. 
  • Demonstrated experience with legal technology platforms, including Contract Lifecycle Management tools, and the ability to leverage data, dashboards, and metrics to inform strategy, manage risk, and support business decision-making.  
  • Proficiency in AI tools and other legal technology systems such as matter management and budgeting.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, experience, and location. The minimum salary for the Deputy General Counsel, Building Operations & Experience position is $350,000 annually and the maximum salary for the Deputy General Counsel, Building Operations & Experience position is $395,000 annually. The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on their skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program. This role will provide the following benefits: 401(K), Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, and Vision insurance.
