POSITION: REGIONAL SAFETY MANAGER

About the Role:

The Regional Safety Manager will be a key member of our operations team supporting our construction projects. They will be responsible for setting the standards and operating practices for our key accounts and furthermore ensure compliance with the standards. They will have a dotted line reporting relationship to all the site safety managers and will collaboratively work with the site managers to manage safety issues/escalations when needed.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Manages performance and accountability for Safety & Health for their region or area of responsibility.
  • Leads and coaches a team of Site Safety Managers and site personnel in working safely.
  • Develops and manages the administration of the customer/project/company incident (injury, illness, and accident) prevention efforts for their business unit / geography.
  • Supports the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of safety programs across Direct Line’s operations through partnership with site leadership and safety personnel.
  • Supports the adherence to the customer safety program and acts as the point of contact for DL for strategic discussions around the evolution of the safety program.
  • Act as the safety point of contact for new sites, to understand the local site requirements, develop the site specific safety plan, and ultimately onboard and train the safety manager at the site.
  • May respond to RFPs, participate in customer meetings or customer safety teams as necessary
  • Actively promotes a zero-injury culture across all employees and functions.
  • Assists in the development and facilitate appropriate training programs.
  • Review required safety documentation for sites.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through periodic site field walks with safety and Operations personnel, with a focus on company requirements, client & GC requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Facilitate all injury/illness cases and assist with workers’ compensation cases, as needed.
  • As needed, fulfil the site safety manager responsibilities.

 

Additional responsibilities:

  • Assist with or conduct work area safety, health & environment assessments.
  • Assists in the development, organization, and implementation of safety related programs that meet regulatory and company safety standards.
  • Perform and document jobsite inspections and audits with a focus on hazard recognition and unsafe behaviors.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety meetings/training programs to ensure effective communication amongst employees.
  • Participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure personnel safety and health by reviewing the job hazard analysis for major phases of our work.
  • Assist and develop various safety, health & environment reports, as required by Direct Line, or the Client or General Contractor.
  • Support Crew Foreman/General Foremen in development of Job Hazard Analyses.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through site field walks with safety and Operations personnel, with a focus on company requirements, client & GC requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Meet regularly with field personnel and support in the development of project specific corrective action plans to address safety issues and concerns.
  • Provide regular feedback to project leadership in a constructive manner on needed areas for safety improvement and recognition.
  • Assist in responding to safety & health prequalification and job bid requirements and assist with project readiness.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and provide recognition for employees exhibiting safe behaviors.
  • Assist with delivery of jobsite specific safety orientations for new employees and agency workers joining the project, as applicable.
  • Support Project Leadership in completion of incident investigations in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Help drive & support safety recognition programs and efforts.
  • Provide support to improving Safety Culture at company.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred in safety & health or the sciences).
  • Minimum 5 years in construction safety experience.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • OSHA 30 Construction required. 500/510 OSHA certifications preferred.
  • BCSP Certification (CSP, ASP or CHST) preferred
  • Experience with union workforce desired.
  • Experience with data center work strongly desired.
  • Ability to work independently, strong written and oral communication skills with ability to influence behaviors.
  • Ability to communicate and work professionally with Clients and General Contractors.
  • Ability to manage multiple personnel (directly and indirectly), and coach their teams to high performance and standards.
  • Ability to solve critical problems & issues, calmly and efficiently.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Skill or ability to learn various safety software programs.
  • Ability to walk throughout sites, including construction sites, for extended periods of time.
