About the Role: As the Technical Manager at CBRE Data Center Solutions, you will fulfill two primary functions: serving as a Subject Matter Expert and overseeing Critical Environment Risk Management (CERM) Governance. In the first role, you will provide technical expertise in electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems, acting as a key resource for site operations teams to address operational and maintenance challenges. In the second role, you will manage CERM processes, including reporting on key performance indicators and implementing risk management strategies to ensure the stability and safety of critical environments. This position demands a strong engineering foundation to support both operational reliability and risk mitigation efforts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Oversight over CBRE’s Critical Environment Risk Management System, including:
• Reviewing client contracts to ensure compliance with technical and operational requirements.
• Managing critical infrastructure drawings and documentation for accuracy and accessibility.
• Developing and maintaining site operational RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed) matrices.
• Conducting staffing analysis to optimize team performance and coverage.
• Creating and updating business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
• Implementing qualification programs and human error training to enhance operational reliability.
• Coordinating mock scenario drills to test response readiness.
• Planning and scheduling maintenance activities to minimize downtime risks.
• Developing and refining operational procedures (SOPs, EOPs, MOPs).
• Providing incident support, including root cause analysis and after-action reports.
• Managing critical infrastructure capacity to meet current and future demands.
• Maintaining and updating risk registers to proactively address potential issues.
• Optimizing data center floor airflow management for energy efficiency.
Providing technical support to operations teams in the following areas:
• Guiding the development and execution of operating procedures (EOPs, SOPs, MOPs).
• Supporting emergency response and mock drill execution.
• Leading incident response efforts, including root cause analysis and after-action reporting.
• Communicating technical matters effectively with clients and stakeholders.
• Managing preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance programs.
• Contributing to strategic planning for operational and infrastructure improvements.
• Optimizing data center floor airflow to enhance cooling efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Assessing asset condition and contributing to capital planning to prioritize infrastructure upgrades, replacements, and lifecycle investments.
• Developing and implementing sustainability strategies to improve energy efficiency (e.g., reducing Power Usage Effectiveness [PUE]), manage water usage effectiveness (WUE).
• Coordinating with vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with service agreements and operational standards.
• Willingness to travel 15-20% of the time to support site operations, client meetings, or critical incident response as needed.
Knowledge Operation, maintenance, and repair of data center critical infrastructure, including
• Standby generators, UPS systems, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATSs).
• Air-cooled and water-cooled chilled water plants and distribution systems.
• Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAHs) and Air Conditioners (CRACs).
• Water treatment and filtration systems.
• Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and Data Center Information Management systems (DCIM). Engineering Knowledge of:
• Psychrometric charts, HVAC load calculations, and hydronic pipe sizing.
• Reading electrical one-lines, chilled, and condenser water diagrams.
• Standard sequences of operation for electrical and mechanical data center systems.
• Electrical power calculations per NFPA 70 (NEC), coordination, arc-flash studies (NFPA 70E), and maintenance practices (NFPA 70B).
• Industry standards, including ASHRAE Datacom/TC 9.9 and OCP publications.
• Principles of preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance.
• Energy efficiency metrics (e.g., PUE, WUE) and sustainable data center practices.
Skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and Microsoft Power BI for data analysis and reporting.
• Proficient in Bluebeam, CAD, and BIM software for technical documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for client and team interactions.
• Analytical and strategic thinking for planning and problem-solving.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering field is preferred
• Professional Engineering License is a plus.
• Three to five years of experience in the data center industry, with a focus on design and/or operations.
