Director, U.S. and Canada Benefits Administration


Reporting to the SVP, HR Operations, the Director, U.S. and Canada Benefits Administration leads the benefits operations team and oversees benefits delivery. As a subject matter expert in benefits administration, this role will ensure benefits data integrity by improving operational processes and procedures, resulting in a reduction of errors. The Director will provide consultative expertise, advice and guidance to build a best-in-class administration process to improve the employee experience. This role directs the day-to-day administration of the benefits team, including health and welfare, retirement and leave administration.

This new exciting and important role will be integral in leading the benefits administration team in long-term success in a fast paced, large, world-class organization!

This role is currently based in Dallas, TX. In 2022, the role will be based in Richardson, TX.


Responsible for leading, motivating and developing a team of benefit administration professionals, setting clear goals, and managing performance.

Manage benefits administration outsourcing vendor and TPA relationships, and lead RFPs for benefits service delivery. Make recommendations for changes that support an improved benefits delivery experience.

Responsible for identifying process deficiencies and recommending and implementing process improvements.

In partnership with the benefits strategy team, leads the implementation of new benefit plans and vendors; partners as a SME in benefit RFPs/RFIs as needed.

Build relationships and collaborate with key strategic partners across multiple functions. Creates clear line of communication to key partners (e.g., benefits strategy team, payroll, D&T), proactively informing on issues and projects.

Overall responsibility for U.S. and Canada annual enrollment.

Ensures compliance with all state and federal filings (e.g., 5500s, 1095-Cs).


Manages the planning, organization and controls for a major functional area or department.

May be responsible for a mix of direct and matrix reports. 

Approves subordinates' recommendations for staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination. 

Effectively recommends same for direct reports to next level management for review and approval. 

Monitors appropriate staffing levels and reports on utilization and deployment of human resources (HR).  

Leads and supports staff in areas of staffing, selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring, measuring, appraising and rewarding performance and retention. 

Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from 4-year college required with a minimum of 10 years HR experience with 8 years in progressively responsible global positions in benefits focused on benefits program administration.

Experience managing the administration of large, complex health and welfare benefit programs, including leading RFPs/RFIs. 

Specific knowledge and experience managing leave of absence and disability plan administration.

Thorough knowledge of benefit regulations (COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, IRS Section 125, FMLA, ADA, etc.).

Project management experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. 

Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers.

Ability to effectively respond to sensitive issues, complex inquiries or complaints from co-workers, supervisor and/or management. 

Ability to make effective presentations on general topics to an internal department or large group of employees.


Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents.

Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations.

Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.

Innate understanding of how to prioritize work and communicate prioritization effectively.


Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite. 

Extensive knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs, including federal and state law.

Experience with a large, complex employer.
