The purpose of the Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental (QHSE) Sr. Manager position is to execute CBRE’s Environmental, Safety & Health core values and the EHS blueprint relative to the Project Management (PjM) organization, Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) segment.
The Sr. Manager will support construction and general industry QHSE efforts within the Principle Contracts, Management Contracts and/or Agency projects portfolio, focusing on occupier and investor clients.


Acts as subject matter expert (SME) to drive regional visible leadership commitment, embedding a culture of safety, health and wellness into everything we do. Effectively leverages storytelling to help demonstrate what QHSE should look like in all levels of the organization in a way that captures hearts and minds, creating the compelling case for change and continuous improvement.  

Locally drives and collaborates with local market leaders to operationalize CBRE’s QHSE blueprints, Safety & Health Management System and business integration of ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO 45001 standards. Leverages job safety analyses, in-depth persona development, empathy-based research and experience design concepts to create safe and healthful experiences for our clients.

Partners closely with the QHSE Global organization and local market leadership to roadmap and prioritize the right efforts at the right time, driving organizational discipline of QHSE work through proven project management knowledge, tools and techniques. Conducts and leads continuous improvement activities using LEAN principles and Kaizen events.

Integrates QHSE programs and processes into CBRE’s proven global project management methodology (PjM 5-phase lifecycle), delivery model and system(s). Works closely with project management teams to ensure site-specific contractor plans and other key CBRE HSE requirements are built into projects and appropriate hierarchy of controls considered, with a concentrated focus on contractor pre-qualification and client project planning requirements.

Leads, manages and develops other QHSE leaders at the regional site level. This includes developing bench strength managing leadership development plans for the team.

Maintains current knowledge, communicates and transfers technical competency of regional health & safety governmental laws, rules and regulations. Consults, coordinates, and serves as principal liaison with project manager leaders of global QHSE CBRE requirements with each region.

Serves as lead investigator for SIF (any serious injuries) or SIF-p (serious injury prevention) events. Produces final audit report, talk track, and presents to Global QHSE and Operations leadership, when requested.

Ensures local auditing, inspections and behavioral observations are occurring within predetermined frequency. Serves as SME and supports project managers in executing CBRE QHSE tools and techniques, including behavioral observations, inspections, lessons learned, incident investigations and corrective action planning.

Timely communicates any compliance findings, concerns and non-conformances to the appropriate and responsible management team. Follows through to ensure issues, concerns and deficiencies are corrected. Develops and implements solutions that will support project managers’ efforts to improve compliance and maintain as required.

Produces metrics and dashboards, identifies trends and proposes local action plans; provides periodic report-out’s and updates to regional PjM leadership. Provides direct and timely counsel and information to management for accounts, market area, and/or geographical region in matters pertaining to QHSE, compliance, trends, performance and concerns.

Participates when needed in presentations, consultation meetings, bids and contract generation to support client buying requirements, expectations, behaviors and associated outcomes.

Contributes to the global QHSE blueprint and playbook, including standards development, process enhancements and other recommendations to drive continuous improvement. Harmonizes approaches, advises, and provides support on the effective and efficient implementation of CBRE QHSE strategy, standards, programs and performance measures.

Manages the working relationships between project managers, QHSE professionals, GWS leadership principle business and operational stakeholders, and high-level external constituencies.

Bachelor's degree required in Environmental, Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, with a focus on construction. May substitute degree in Business Management or equivalent, plus a certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), NEBOSH Diploma or CPD/IPD.


Experience working in any one or multiples of the following is essential: project management, construction, heavy industry, facilities maintenance, chemical processing and refining environments, manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceutical / biotechnology.


7+ years of experience leading an EHS organization or large EHS programs in a multi-site environment. Working knowledge of regional construction and general industry government health, safety and environmental regulations is required.


5+ years leading and managing projects – certification in project management (PMP) preferred.


5+ years managing people in a multi-site and highly matrixed environment; Ability to effectively manage a large, diverse team of technical managerial/supervisory, professional, and support staff.

Demonstrated experience delivering results in a highly matrixed, sometimes ambiguous environment.

Ability to establish and build strong relationships across a diverse network.


Experience with mergers & acquisitions is a highly desirable.

Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions.

Demonstrated ability to successfully direct, coordinate, and strategically integrate multiple developmental, enhancement, and/or modification projects on a global level.

Knowledge of current developments and trends in QHSE best practices and related technology.

Knowledge and understanding of CBRE PjM/QHSE organization structure, workflow, and operating procedures.

Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex business documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive issues. Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups. Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key employees, top management, and client groups to take desired action.

Requires in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles.
Ability to analyze the most complex business/financial data and develop innovative solutions.

Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations.
Requires expert level analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutions for a growing matrix-based multi-industry sales environment. Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations that have a direct impact on the company.

Responsible for setting project, department and/or division deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause long-term impact to line of business and/or overall company



Although this a remote position, local regional travel of 25% is expected with overnight stay and periodic international travel may be required when business dictates.
