The Senior Portfolio Analyst with CBRE Loan Services is responsible for interaction within our internal organization, clients, borrowers, sponsors (owners), contractors, attorneys, title companies, architects, brokers property managers, appraisers, and other deal related parties.  This is a leadership position requiring a strong knowledge base of commercial real estate finance and time value of money principals. With certain clients, the focus will be on multifamily assets, including development and performing projects (Class A, Class B, single family build for rent as well as workforce housing) while with other portfolios will contain multiple property types.  Specific responsibilities include preparation of formal written presentations analyzing a wide spectrum of issues relating to property-level performance, analysis of asset performance compared to market peers, delivery of the highest level of customer service to both internal and external clients, preparation of detailed financial analysis and cash flow models, abstracting of deal documents, performing property inspections, and other functions including: market / sub-market research, presentations creation of written presentations, and property management oversight.  The Senior Portfolio Analyst works on an Equity or Debt Asset Management team, maintains responsibility for a portfolio and also mentors newer analysts. Senior Portfolio Analysts will evaluate and recommend strategies directly to clients in an effort to assist the client achieve investment optimization. 

  • Assist Portfolio Managers by performing tasks involved in monitoring the performance and progress of business plans related to a portfolio of assigned commercial real estate investments
  • Mentor, train, and may directly manage Portfolio Analysts
  • Provide excellent customer service and problem resolution for client, sponsor, and internal partners
  • Review and interpret deal documents, including joint venture agreements and monitor compliance in accordance with those documents
  • Analysis of property level financial statements including operating statements, balance sheets and rent rolls
  • Conduct research and financial analysis of commercial real estate properties and portfolios
  • Assist with data compilation for client decisions. Makes presentation of analysis that will be used for investment decisions
  • Build and maintain complex financial models to track the performance of transactions from inception through deal exit, that require advanced excel modeling skills and a solid understanding of time value of money principals
  • Actively participate in client led investment committee meetings on a quarterly basis
  • Reconcile and review construction draws for ground up development projects
  • Ability to identify project risks, develop risk mitigation and contingency plans, and implement action plans to reduce or eliminate project risks
  • Perform valuations of properties in MS Excel and Argus
  • Upon request, travel to conduct property inspections that may include coordination with client, sponsor, property manager and/or 3rd party inspector
  • Oversee the preparation of annual budgets and strategic plans for each assigned property
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

May be responsible for training, mentoring or managing Portfolio Analysts or Associates

  • Extensive MS Excel experience building and maintain cash flow models 
  • Complete understanding of time value of money concepts and key financial metrics a must
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills in reviewing financial statements and ability to recognize risk through evaluation of operating trends
  • Experience with multifamily operations a plus
  • Exceptional professional writing and verbal communication skills are essential
  • General commercial real estate underwriting capabilities 
  • Experience tracking construction projects for capital providers a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and simultaneously manage and effectively prioritize numerous complex transactions and issues
  • Detail oriented and dedicated to accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong problem resolution skills
  • Great attention to detail, analytical mindset and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Previous work experience in commercial real estate with focus on cash flow modeling, construction administration, valuation and / or servicing

3+ years of in-depth financial analyst experience in commercial real estate with a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.  Master’s degree in a related field preferred.  


  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret loan documents, joint venture documents, and industry reports  
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, complete, and compelling transactional presentations, reports, and business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information to external clients and customers as well as internal management
  • Ability to communicate directions and guidance to others 

Advanced understanding of the principles of real estate and finance, including time value of
money principals. Ability to perform financial calculations and hold/sell analyses.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in written or diagram form and deal with disparate abstract and concrete variables.

Proficient in comment Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Experience with Argus preferred.

Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
