Utility Infrastructure Manager

About the Role

As part of CBRE’s Global Workplace Solutions team, the Utility Infrastructure Manager will lead the technical oversight and strategic startup of the utility due diligence team for a major e-commerce client. This leadership position is designed for a professional who can spearhead initial engagements and the mobilization of workflow processes, subsequently leading the expansion of a high-performing analyst team. You will be responsible for resolving complex technical encumbrances, managing high-level utility relations, and acting as a primary technical advisor to the client's regional leadership, clearly articulating complex grid and real estate constraints into actionable acquisition strategies.

What You’ll Do

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and oversee a team of Utility Infrastructure Analysts; drive the recruitment and technical training of the team as the program transitions from startup to steady-state operations.
  • Strategic Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for client regional leads, translating complex technical utility data and easement restrictions into clear, executive-level summaries and strategies.
  • Workflow Mobilization: Lead the initial engagement strategies for utility and easement research, ensuring a seamless startup of the regional infrastructure pipeline.
  • Technical Risk Assessment: Lead technical power availability assessments and research complex substation and utility infrastructure requirements for high-intensity loads.
  • Easement & Real Property Resolution: Review utility easements, right-of-way agreements, and access agreements to identify key terms and resolve complex title encumbrances.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with title companies, surveyors, and legal counsel to resolve easement conflicts and property research during due diligence.
  • Relationship Stewardship: Serve as the primary coordination point with utility account managers and right-of-way teams for active, complex requests.
  • Process Improvement: Design and implement the foundational templates and process improvements used to scale the infrastructure program.

What You’ll Need

  • Communication Skills: Mastery of communication, with the ability to articulate highly technical concepts to non-technical / technical regional leadership and influence decision-making.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in energy management, utility relations, or infrastructure advisory, including experience managing or leading a team of analysts.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to onboard, train, and develop technical staff in a fast-paced, scaling environment.
  • Industry Insight: Advanced understanding of utility interconnection processes and large-scale infrastructure projects across various ISO/RTO markets.
  • Project Management: Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage complex document systems across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree with preference in contracts, energy, or a related field.
