JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for administering Canadian payroll processing functions for salaried, hourly, union, and commissioned personnel. Directly responsible for accurate and timely maintenance and audit of master file, payroll related transactions, payroll processing and delivery. Processes special or exception items, including reversals, voids, deductions, and quarterly/year-end payroll items.

Supports Canadian payroll, tax and some benefit related activities, including compliance with provincial and federal regulations, and filing of provincial and federal payroll tax returns. Responsible for working with a third party to ensure accurately and timely remittance of all taxes.

Located in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, Canada. Reports into Centre of Excellence in Dallas, Texas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administers timely and accurate regular payroll processing items, including on-cycle, off-cycle, commission, and bonus items while maintaining strict confidentiality of information reviewed and processed.

Coordinates and processes incoming paperwork or documentation such as status changes, garnishments or employee/field-initiated requests as directed by management.

Processes special or exception items including reversals, voids, deductions, and quarterly/year-end payroll items.

Prepares, reviews, and takes appropriate action on audit reports to verify data integrity. Prepares ad-hoc reports using human resources information systems (HRIS) information.

Administers process and/or documentation as required to fund payroll related deductions (government agencies, union dues, global payroll, etc.)

Researches, validates, and corrects employee data in payroll system delivering a high level of quality customer service. Works with department members, management and/or employees to identify issues, and achieve timely resolutions.

Ensures compliance with workers' compensation and government disability required withholding. Tests system tax updates for accuracy.

Researches and reviews wage base discrepancies for annual reporting.  Reviews sick pay, vacation balances, leave calculations and ensure propriate reporting.

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical   guidance and/or training to co-workers. May coordinate and assign tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in Accounting or related field with a minimum of three years Canadian payroll tax experience including multi-provincial payroll tax, unionized payroll, garnishment, and payroll processing required. Finance/Accounting knowledge or experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Canadian French preferred. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of payroll processes including pay calculations, tax geographical location (provincial, territory, federal etc.) taxation rules, wage, and hour laws, etc.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve problems involving complex options in variable situations. Requires intermediate analytical skills.

OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

PeopleSoft system knowledge required. Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications and other third-party tax research tools.
