JOB SUMMARY 
The primary focus of this role is to build value for CBRE clients through thoughtfully developed product offerings. To do this, the Director of Product Development collaborates with market facing product owners to strategize product strategy, identify products and sub-products, and support their development as measured by the established product maturity matrix. This role provides a unique opportunity to shape product offerings and CBRE’s standing as a leader in the space across Sustainability, Smart Portfolios, and Technical Excellence as well as other strategic themes. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
This role reports into the Product Management Leader and guides and collaborates with market-facing product owner to build and refresh products to bring to market. This includes strategy shaping, project management and quality control throughout the product development process: investigation (research,) qualification (storytelling,) concept synthesis (operational excellence,) packaging, and presentation (product training & marketing.)  

  • Provides internal consulting services for market-facing product owners that will align priorities and projects, ensure cohesion across workstreams, reduce redundant efforts, and distributes new & existing best practices where appropriate.  
  • Remains intimately familiar with products across the org to quickly draw correlations or provide insights on the potential outcomes of products or sub-products suggested for the EFM roadmap.  
  • Host regular 1:1 meetings with product owners to discuss roadmap progress, content deliverables, and roadblocks 
  • Establishes rich understanding of workstreams across a pillar’s product lines to connect teams working on similar/parallel projects that could inform or help one another

More broadly, the Director of Product Development is responsible for managing disparate projects that coalesce as a set of comprehensive product collateral and processes that will be consistent across the business and cater to a range of audiences from C-suite decision-makers to SMEs and operational teams.

  • Remains aware of industry trends and recommends product and service differentiators to stay ahead of industry innovation curves with a bias toward proactive action.  
  • Establish a process or system for tracking client and potential client feature requests for EFM and pairs those insights with industry trends to create a queue of potential innovations 
  • Rank innovations and product/process ideas by scale of impact, scope of work, ROI, and budget to create a backlog of potential roadmap items   
  • Helps proactively track competitor product development, marketing, and investments.

  • Partners with the following specialist teams across the org to ensure best-in-class product marketing, collateral, and education experiences before product owners share with GTM and BTO (Bid, Transition, Operate) teams for delivery.
  • Product Marketing – for brand consistency and to help finish/design work on product decks including training, brief and brochure, and other visuals
  • Product Content – for production and consistency of written collateral that will sit at the core of other product collateral developed throughout the productization process and by product owners through the product’s life cycle
  • Product Education – for production and review of consistent, engaging product education that fits a product or sub-product’s position in the hierarchy and is relevant to audiences ranging from internal teams to clients and on-site operations

As products are put through this process, new business demands arise and lessons are learned through experience or feedback from teams and clients, the Director of Product Development will document and synthesize those learnings into an evolving product management strategy and framework on an ongoing basis to improve and streamline productization going forward. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and/or Technical degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of eight years of related experience and/or training. 
Prior Supervisory Management experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
CPE (Certified Plant Engineer) and/or CPMM (Certified Maintenance Manager) and/or OSHA 501 training, etc. preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex business documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive issues. Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups. Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key employees, top management, and client groups to take desired action.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE
Requires in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles. Reviews complex financial/business analysis and reports prepared by subordinates. Ability to analyze the most complex business/financial data and develop innovative solutions. Develops and implements financial policies and procedures. Approves and oversees department budget.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations. Requires expert level analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutions for a growing matrix-based multi-industry sales environment. Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations that have a direct impact on the company.

Responsible for setting project, department and/or division deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause long-term impact to line of business and/or overall company.
