Across the APAC region, CBRE Investment Management manage $11.0bn of direct real estate assets. We are seeking to recruit a Head of Financial Operations - APAC into our Singapore based team. The successful candidate will be team orientated and self-motivated with a diligent approach, excellent relevant technical knowledge, good communication skills and a proven ability to manage people.
We are seeking an experienced real estate finance professional who can further enhance our existing team, be a best-in-class program finance head whilst also overseeing our regional finance teams. Reporting into the CFO – EMEA Direct, APAC Direct & Global Indirect, the role is an exciting opportunity for the candidate to take a leading role in developing our financial operations across the region, across both Separate Account clients and funds.
Working as a Head of Financial Operations you will lead the Fund Accounting team (3 direct reports, 5 people in total - based in Singapore), and the regional Asset Finance teams (3 direct reports, 8 people in total - Japan, Korea, China), with responsibility for reporting, structuring, financing and financial and regulatory management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for the delivery of all required reporting for the Funds/Mandates, both in terms of quality and adherence to deadlines.
- Ensuring consistent best practice financial management, tax planning, legal and regulatory compliance for products, ensuring segregation of duties and a suitable controls framework across the region
- Play a strategic role in the selection of the accounting/reporting systems and development of technology solutions to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Remain current with changing environment/regulations, responsible for impact on fund accounting practice.
- Serve as a non-executive director for Fund entities and member of internal committees.
- Treasury & Debt Financing
- Responsible for establishing fund financing strategy and optimising the financing process, including sign off on financing terms (local and fund level).
- Review of treasury/cash management functions and counterparties, including consideration of risk.
- Maintain existing and cultivate new relationships with lenders.
- Lead in the setup of new Fund/Mandate structures from a tax and operational perspective, including contributing and sign off to Fund/Mandate documentation language and terms.
- Oversight on the investment deal structuring and financial/tax DD process for all transactions.
- Play a role in capital raising, including review of RFP and participation in investor pitches and due diligence meetings.
- Manage relationships with tax and legal advisors.
- Leading and developing the fund finance team of 5 located in Singapore and the regional asset finance teams (3 direct reports, 8 employees in total).
- Responsible for planning and monitoring of resourcing levels, recruitment of new staff, performance appraisals for team members and the long-term development of individuals.
- Act as mentor and coach and lead by example with model behaviors consistent with the company’s values.
- Be the key finance partner to the CIO & Fund Managers.
- Client facing with frequent interactions with investors during the lifetime of the Funds/Mandates.
- Work with other internal teams in handling special requirements or projects.
- Managing relationships and negotiation of fees with external service providers, including, tax and legal advisors, depositaries, fund custodians and auditors.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree educated with an emphasis in accounting, finance or related field. A minimum of 10 years accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Chartered/Certified Accountant with minimum 7 years PQE.
- Prior experience in real estate/private equity/investment management a prerequisite.
- Experience in structuring and debt financing desirable.
- Proven at managing and developing teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, combined with a professional and engaging manner.
- High level of self-motivation and willingness to take responsibility and work independently.
- Performance-oriented as well as hands-on mentality.
- Fluent in English, additional languages beneficial.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
