Job Title:        Data Centre Mechanical and Electrical Technician 
Location:        London

This role is a day shift role on site at Docklands. It operates on an 8 hour shift (7am-4pm with one hour’s rest across the day). There are currently 5 members of the day shift (Jan 2022). The team reports into the Day Shift Supervisor (Sean O’Neill), and he acts as their direct-line manager for all aspects of their job including assigning work and approving absences.

The main objective of the role is to complete M&E PPM and reactive works across the buildings on Campus and South to an exceptionally high level of quality.

This role reports to the Building Control Room (BCR) in the North Building at 7am each weekday, signing in on the daily sheet. The role reports to the BCR again at 4pm, signing out on the same sheet.


Responsibilities:

Note: Within a day shift there are a range of expertise and qualifications, both mechanical, fabric, and electrical, so not all responsibilities will be applicable to all roles. All role holders are however expected to assist colleagues within their areas of competency.

  • To ensure site Electrical and Mechanical systems are operated and maintained to the required codes of practice and industry guidelines
  • To ensure the building fabric is maintained to a high quality in accordance with the contract scope
  • Ensure the PPM’s you have been assigned for the as-built equipment are 100% completed on time and to a high quality
  • To carry out day-to-day maintenance and reactive issues relating to all the equipment and assets
  • Complete information on all work and feedback through the CAFM system (Concept)
  • Carry out fault identification/rectification and escalation when required on heating, ventilation and air conditioning issues
  • Dealing with and completing plumbing related issues during out of hours period
  • Maintain effective communication to the Day Shift Supervisor including your location, plant status, plant isolation, issues arising, ongoing works and standards of housekeeping
  • Ensure any parts required are clearly and accurately stated and any difficulties encountered on engineering activities are reported to the Day Shift Supervisor
  • Manage stock levels of spares/parts on site
  • Ensure plant areas, workshops, stores, changing/rest areas etc. are kept to the highest level of housekeeping
  • Operation and troubleshooting for the following
  • Building Electrical Installation (associated panels, equipment, and circuits)
  • Emergency lighting
  • Lighting Control systems
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Fire suppression and detection systems
  • Air conditioning Systems, Variable Air Volume Systems (VAVs), Fan Coil Units (FCUs) and Split Systems
  • Air Handling Units (AHUs), variable speed drives
  • Industrial Adiabatic Coolers (IACs)
  • Heating systems
  • Generators and controls
  • Fuel storage and interceptor systems
  • Building water storage and delivery systems
  • Single and three phase motors
  • UPS system and associated control systems
  • Hazard reporting - at least one report per person, per month
  • Escalate any health and safety issue/potential issue you identify in the course of your duties
  • Escort subcontractors and supervise their work if required
  • Fabric repairs to the buildings and their facilities
  • Completion of assigned training including Tool Box Talks
  • Monthly PPE checks

Lines of communication and report:

  • Reporting to Day Shift Supervisor
  • Close working with 24/7 shift
  • Attendance at any team meetings as required
  • Weekly completion of a timesheet, submission to Day Shift Supervisor
